The
first order of business was the affirmation of monthly meetings to be held on
the second Tuesday night of the month.
COMMITTEES: The majority of the meeting was used to
discuss and clarify upcoming events as they pertain to individual committees.
Since timing is important in the scheduling and securing of appropriate
locations for outings many events are well into the initial planning stages.
The Activities Committee with Maggie Snead as Chairperson will begin to
finalize plans and function shortly.
It was decided by
the Troop Committee that the Bowl a Thon will not be a Fund raising event for
our troop. Anyone wishing to participate individually or as a family is welcome
to. Information will be supplied.
A discussion
regarding alternate transportation for events which take place at a significant
distance ensued. Due to potential challenges it was generally felt that more
information was needed to make a decision.
The Scouting for
Food Event will take place in March (due to the greater need to replenish food
banks in spring) and will be spearheaded by Maureen Staub and Anne Marie
Olenik.
Courts of Honor
will be held 3 or 4 times per year with refreshments handled by the appropriate
committee chaired by Flo D’Elia.
In order to give
the scouts a regular forum for advancement and encouragement Board of Reviews
will be held the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Dwight Wolf
Chairperson will arrange a signup list for volunteers for each month. Three
adults are needed for each Review.
A
discussion regarding Troop committees ensued. It was felt that each individual
committee should report back all pertinent activity to the monthly Troop
Committee Meeting. It was also reiterated that Troop 290 is a boy-run troop.
The scouts decide which programs/events they wish to take part in and help in
the planning and running of same. Adult volunteers are there for help and
guidance.
FRIENDS
OF SCOUTING: Jerry Ceres Scoutmaster
discussed the role of Friends of Scouting and the need for contributions. It
costs approximately $100.00/year/scout for the various programs Monmouth
Council provides (Quail Hill, Forrestburg etc). A presentation from FOS at a
future meeting is a consideration. Other options were discussed.
WEB
SITE: Sean Race will maintain and
update the website. This will include committee chairs, events calendar and
other important information for adult volunteers as well as scouts.
The
meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM by Thomas Clarke. The next meeting will be
held December 11 2001 at the Grange. The Holiday party will be held December 19
at the Firehouse.
